Quotes

Cub Scout Leader Graham Cairns described the service: "Taking it in turns to speak, the Cubs described the history, symbols and mottoes - official and unofficial - of the Olympic Games. They told us of British Olympic medal-hopefuls from Yorkshire, like Jessica Ennis. "After a hymn and a prayer, they told us about the Olympic Torch relay, which will start at Land's EndEnd on 19 May and pass through Leeds on 24 June passing near St Andrew's through Chapel Allerton, before the Olympic Games start in London on 27 July. The Cubs had made their own Olympic-style torches and led a torch relay around the church. "We prayed for all taking part in the Olympic Games and the organisers and officials. We thanked God for this opportunity to bring people together from all over the world. We thought about poverty in much of the world and the Cubs helped launch this year's Christian Aid appeal, which will take place over this next week." Rev David Pickering, Minister of St Andrew's added, "This was a wonderful service with the Cubs. Everyone in the congregation will have learned something. At St Andrew's we have parade services throughout the year. Each is led by a uniformed organisation. We say "Thank you" to God for this special service led by the Cubs.""
Local organiser Sally Fletcher, of Emmanuel Church, in Higher Compton, said: "The charity works to bring an end to poverty around the world – tackling its root causes as well as its effects."
